Mindfulness during times of stress – Part of our Healthy Headspace Series
With Susan Barrett
by Kerry Businesswomen’s Network
Right now it’s more important than ever to care for not just your physical health, but also your mental wellbeing.
We’ve tapped into our abundant local talent of health and wellness experts to create this Healthy Headspace Series. Designed to introduce you to different approaches and techniques, each event allows you to take a moment for yourself and enhance and support your mental well-being.
From balancing home-schooling with work, job loss, financial uncertainty, exhaustion and loneliness, the stresses of our current situation can manifest in many ways. We know that meditation can’t change what is happening to us or around us, but it can change our relationship with what we are experiencing.
For the first in the series, we are thrilled to bring you, Susan Barrett. Susan is a fully qualified and experienced Mindfulness teacher, certified by the Center for Mindfulness, Massachusetts, and has studied under Dr. Chris Germer, of Harvard Medical School. Susan lectures on the Masters in Mindfulness-Based Wellbeing in University College Cork (UCC), and runs a range of mindfulness courses and workshops in County Kerry through her practice Susan Barrett Mindfulness

Mindfulness During Times of Stress – Guided Meditation
This guided recording offers you the opportunity to take some time out from whatever you may be doing right now. It is intended to support you in pausing, slowing things down a bit and bringing your attention into THIS very moment. It is a simple practice that will help you to bring awareness to sensations in your body and to your breathing. It can help you to feel more grounded, steady and ready for the rest of your day. Doesn’t that sound appealing?!
Juggling the many demands that come your way can be challenging and it is so easy to become overwhelmed, stressed and anxious trying to keep on top of it all. Mindfulness is not a panacea for all the stresses and strains of daily life but it is most definitely a valuable resource to draw on. As with any other activity you take on in your life, the more you practice it, the more steadiness you may feel and this steadiness can be of great benefit to you and those with whom you share your life. It is a pleasure to share this recording with you and I wish you well as you begin to incorporate it into your daily life.
What is needed?
- Comfortable clothing that will allow you to have ease during breathing practices
- An open mind and a willingness to give it a go, even if you are new to mindfulness!
Thank you to Elin and KBN for inviting me to meet with our members during these very strange and challenging times.
I really enjoyed the opportunity of sharing some mindfulness practice together,
Warm wishes, Susan
